The Alpine State Highway 73 linking Christchurch with the West Coast and Glacier Region boasts 360 degree views of 100% New Zealand Scenery. The highway boasts a stunning contrast of alpine ranges, majestic snow-capped peaks, the ever-changing waters of the Taramakau River, striking native rainforest with regal 80ft tall Rimu trees, Rata flowers that blossom blood red at Christmas-time, towering Miro, cascading waterfalls and crystal clear streams, graceful Ponga, birds and abundant wildlife. Jacksons Retreat is nestled in amongst this natural breathtaking beauty, high up at the base of the prominent Bald Range.
We believe our Campbervan Retreat Holiday Park is a world first and the best in New Zealand. A purpose built complex providing sites for all weather conditions. The experience we can offer you will totally change your perception of a Campervan Holiday Park.
We pride ourselves on offering a chemically free enviroment, designed with the best fittings and fixtures for your comfort. Our purpose built complex is designed to cater for everyone, whether you're in a campervan or tent.
Jacksons represents over 135 years of West Coast history of hospitality, gold mining and logging.
In the 1860's, the Jackson brothers Adam and Michael built the first hotel as a stage coach stop for travellers to rest and shelter from the West Coast rain, flash floods on the Taramakau River and the alpine snow.
The stage has long since gone, and so has Jacksons Hotel which was built in 1910 by Harry Jackson (Michael's son). Today it is called the Jackson Historic Tavern, 600 metres from our holiday retreat, where guests love to have a drink, sample the tasty menu, and immerse themselves in history and memorabilia with the help of friendly staff.
The Great Alpine Highway between Christchurch and the West Coast boasts winter skiing and summer tramping – and breathtaking scenery all year round. It leads you to Jacksons Retreat, which is providing shelter once again at Jacksons for the weary traveller. This campervan park is a New Zealand first, and gained an Innovation Award for 2007/2008 for its unique concept.
