Cable Bay Holiday Park has powered and non powered sites. Your friendly and knowledgable hosts, Ian and Barbara Stuart can explain the farm walks and interesting and unique local history.
Sealed, well drained surfaces provide access to maintained grass areas with a backdrop of native bush protected by legal covenent. Ideal for providing independent and campervan travellers with an opportunity to relax and unwind in a safe, sheltered and peaceful setting.
A newly built amenities building is clean and spacious with ample hot showers, laundry facilities, fridge and freezer in the fully equiped kitchen.
Cable Bay Cafe
A new sister cafe to the award winning Morrison Street Cafe has opened out at Cable Bay. Located in the old Cable Station Cafe, which began life back in the 1920s as a tearooms, Cable Bay Cafe is an exciting coastal destination. The menu will be broadly seafood focused, with lots of yummy extras, local wines and good coffee. There will be plenty of outdoor seating in the courtyard, and more tables indoors for those windy days. It will be open daytimes, 7 days, all year round, with evening opening till around 7pm on Fridays - a great place for a wind-down after work on Friday, and a good spot to take visitors to our region.
Walks
Walking and walks are a major attraction with easy access to the beautiful Cable Bay Walkway (Click for detailed DOC information) which passes directly through the property, and overlooking the new Horoirangi Marine Reserve.
Sea Kayaking
Cable Bay Kayaks is run by long time Bay residents Nick Woods and Jenny Overton, and operated from their nearby seaside home. With a committment to sustainable eco tourism, they operate with a respect for the environment and the rich local Maori and European history. Explore a coastline alive with birdlife, seals and dolphins with one of their specialist half day and one day guided tours.
Horse Trekking
Andrew Harvey has more than 20 years of shepherding and high country mustering experience, and operates Thorndale Horse Treks. They offer half day, full day or relaxing overnight treks which take in the superb mountain, bush and sea views in the Cable Bay area. Phone Andrew on 03 545 1191.
