The journey to Te Kaha Holiday Park leads you through a vista of Pohutakawas, un-spoilt native forest and quiet, uninterrupted bays. 50 minutes by road from Opotiki, or 90 minutes from Whakatane. The scenic drive hugs the East Cape on arguably one of New Zealand’s greatest coastal highways (SH35).
On arrival, walk 300 metres from the park-like surrounds of the Te Kaha Holiday Park and pause, barefoot on the white sandy shores of School House (Maraetai) Bay. Or rejuvenate with a swim in the safe, tranquil beach.
Dictate your own pace and enjoy the spectacular ocean views in this unique, diverse part of New Zealand.
Children are easily entertained in the playground and once they’ve worked up an appetite cure their hunger with a snack from the convenient onsite general store or café.
Meals are stress-free with a takeaway menu available at the general store. This well-stocked General store also offers an Off Licence, Pharmacy Medicines, LPG fills, a Post Shop and Ice plant. Satisfy your morning caffeine craving with great coffee and food at the cafe. We appreciate there are some things you just can’t do without! Open 8am 7 days. Visa, MasterCard, Eftpos accepted.
The favourably maintained ablution block for guest use includes clean toilets, lined shower facilities and commercial laundry equipment (incl. dryer). A communal camp kitchen includes basic necessities; boiling water, toaster, 3 x bench-top stoves and shared fridge/freezer. Dine in on the table and chairs provided.
Beach access is a handy 300m stroll with safe swimming. Easy boat access 500m with launch ramp (use by permit only from Holiday Park Office). After a good days fish’n – scrub up in our fish cleaning area and cook the day’s catch in the on-site Smoke House or BBQ.

Te Kaha - offers impressive viewing of New Zealand’s only active Marine volcano and tourist attraction – White Island. Breathe in this untouched paradise, and become reacquainted with that truly ‘New Zealand’ holiday spirit. Take a bush walk through the rugged Raukumara Ranges, a Horse Trek, Fishing Charter or perhaps a Jet Boat ride on the principal river of the region – the Motu (meaning ‘isolated’ and it certainly is!)
