A relaxed, island-like feeling characterises this unique promontory at a place where tidal waters follow from the Waimea Estuary into the Tasman Bay. Sited on 25 acres of native and exotic woodland, Mapua Leisure Park has excellent recreational, accommodation and camping facilities catering for all age groups.
Leisure Park hosts Gary and Erica have created a warm community atmosphere where peace and tranquility are legend, ensuring the return of many "regular" holiday makers to their favourite piece of paradise year after year!
While the Mapua Leisure Park's beaches, watersports and outdoor recreation make it an extremely popular family resort during the summer, it is also a wonderful place to relax year round.
During autumn, and winter the changing colours of nature, the traditional calm sunny days and the warmer seaside temperatures means it is the ultimate place to re-charge your batteries.
The white caps of the mountains make a stunning winter backdrop and with Nelson's Rainbow skifield only about one and half hours away, the Mapua Leisure Park makes an excellent home base. Calm, clear sunny winter days can be a tranquil time for seakayaking the Abel Tasman National Park.
Our staff will help you organise a smooth holiday itinerary by making all your skiing arrangements, advising on Kahurangi or Abel Tasman National Park options and any other special tours you may wish to take around the region.
The park offers the best of winter with a temperature that's usually a few degrees warmer than Nelson city. Your motel, chalet or backpacker's cabin is well heated for a warm homecoming after a day's excursion. Winter caravaners also benefit by the park's thoughtful design with plenty of sites situated for all day sun.
Clothes optional - February and March
Only ½ hour drive away is Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand's smallest National Park. It protects 23,000 hectares of the most natural stretch of easily accessible coastline in New Zealand. The world famous Coast Track opens up the park's intimate estuaries, golden sand beaches and forested headlands. Day launch cruise trips, and other activities abound.
New Zealand's newest National Park - Kahurangi National Park is the classic national park: huge, wild and rich in the plants and animals that make New Zealand unique. Formed in early 1996, its 452,000 hectares include most remaining natural lands in the north-western South Island.
Nelson Lakes National Park protects 102,000 hectares of the northernmost Southern Alps. The park offers a quiet experience of tranquil beech forests, craggy mountains, clear streams, fields of tussock and lakes both big and small. From Mapua Leisure Park, the Nelson Lakes area is only a 1 ½ hour drive where you can experience true alpine wilderness and nature. Activities include snow skiing at Rainbow or Mt Robert skifields, outstanding brown trout lake/river fishing, and short one hour to longer multi day hikking.
