Karamea is a peaceful paradise situated at the northern end of the South Island of New Zealand's West Coast. Its "road end" situation gives it a special "off the beaten track" feeling. With a mild climate, lush native bush and a beautiful coastline Karamea has a touch of magic to enchant those who visit.
Karamea is a gateway to the Kahurangi National Park with the fabulous limestone arches and Honeycomb caves of the Oparara Basin and the beautiful Heaphy Track nearby.
Leave the rest of the world behind and come to this out of the world way place where the locals still wave to motorists and have time for a friendly chat.
Owners John and Margaret are born and bred Kiwis and have enjoyed the camp since 1992. You will be greeted by Dudley, our enthusiastic Cocker Spaniel dog.

Kayaking--Enjoy a leisurely paddle around our extensive estuary at high tide or take a trip down the Karamea River from the gorge. This takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours and is suitable for inexperienced kayakers. There are rapids on the river which may run or easier options taken.
