Ohiwa harbour offers incredible wildlife, rich history, superb scenery and wonderful attractions in its 11km of ocean beach and 85km of shoreline.
Guests at Ohiwa Family Holiday Park, located on the eastern shores of Ohiwa Harbour, can enjoy a range of aquatic activities from swimming and shellfish collecting to boating and fishing, all right at their doorstep.
Boating and fishing
Enjoy an afternoon of fishing off Ohiwa Harbour entrance where you will find an abundance of snapper and kawai and, in the summer season, kingfish.
Benefit from a two-lane, concrete boat ramp (easily accessible in all tides) and take your boat out on the water for a day of fun and sunshine. Make use of water skiing lanes, or simply throw your line out and catch a few fish for dinner. Designated jet skiing areas are also available.
Ohiwa beach offers great body surfing and boogie boarding opportunities and is safe for swimming. For a little family fun, why not put out a long line and catch a fish or two, fly a kite or make sand castles.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed stay here at Ohiwa Family Holiday Park, simply enjoy an afternoon of sunbathing, admiring the spectacular views out to White Island, an active volcano 50 km due north of Ohiwa, or take an evening stroll along Ohiwa’s beautiful, sweeping white sand beach.
Ohiwa beach is home to the endangered New Zealand dotterel and rare oystercatchers whose eggs and chicks are well camouflaged to protect against predator attack. Ohiwa Family Holiday Park guests are welcome to view these birds, particularly in the nesting season from October to April, but we ask that you use the access ways provided to protect the birds and their natural habitat.
